Verdicts and Settlements:
Confidential Settlement for a 64 Year Old Man who was Left with a Surgical Sponge in his Chest Cavity following Cardiac Surgery
Within a few short months after being retained and without the need to file suit, Mr. Sitinas successfully negotiated a confidential settlement with a local hospital whose surgeon had negligently left behind a surgical sponge in our client’s chest cavity following coronary by-pass surgery.
A subsequent tool count alerted the surgical team that one sponge remained unaccounted for following the surgery. An x-ray taken several hours later clearly indicated the sponge had been left behind in our client’s chest cavity and would have to be surgically removed the following day.
Thankfully, our client experienced no complications from the surgery to remove the sponge and the remorseful hospital offered a confidential settlement amount to avoid litigation on a case they could not win.
